Why We Exist

A foundation built on service — twice over

The Jim & Linda Shubert Foundation was created to take a portion of the profits of Shubert Design and give back to the veteran community.

Jim served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, and in the United States Army Reserves from 1972 to 1974. That service has never left him — and since founding the foundation, he and Linda have used it to provide furniture for the new homes of disabled veterans.

Jim serves on the boards of the Gary Sinise Foundation and the Travis Mills Foundation. Through these organizations, the Shubert Foundation has helped supply numerous veterans with new furniture when custom-built homes are handed over to them — homes that were built for the way their lives look now.

None of it would be possible without the customers of Shubert Design. Every project they choose helps make these gifts possible.

Jim's Story

From the Army to Shubert Design

A private investor, banker, and designer who turned a family business into a vehicle for giving back.

In 1980, Jim and Linda founded Shubert Design Furniture in Manchester, Missouri. After hearing Gary Sinise speak about supporting veterans, the couple began furnishing homes for injured servicemembers — work that has now touched roughly 80 homes built through the Gary Sinise Foundation's R.I.S.E. program.

Jim currently serves as Treasurer of the Gary Sinise Foundation and as Board Chairman of the Travis Mills Foundation, which he joined in 2020. He has helped extend this same support to injured law enforcement officers as well.

FBI Director's Community Leadership Award

Shubert Design Furniture received the 2016 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award, presented at a national ceremony in 2017, for donating interior design services and furniture to specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans and first responders since 2012.
